My husband and I disagree when it comes to spanking our 5-year-old son. I grew up in a family that thinks it’s ok to spank your child if they get out of line. In my family spanking starts at 5 years old and can go on into your teens. I believe a good spanking can deter your child from bad behavior. It really is the best way to discipline a child. My sisters and I were all spanked as children, and we turned out very respectful of others and successful. My husband on the other hand grew up in a soft parenting home with no spankings, just a few time outs and groundings here and there. While he did grow up to be a successful and respectful his siblings are not. His brothers have been in and out of jail many times and can’t be trusted. I don’t want my son to turn out that way.
